First Week at Market
This is the week Hannah and I begin going to Market. Oh and have we been busy! There were wool dryer balls to be rolled and spun, jellies to be jellied, veggie journals to be pulped and pressed and dried and assembled, and plans–oh the plans! This needs to go here and that needs to go there, and where or where should we put this? Our spare room is all aflutter–filled to the brim with good things set here and there.
It was decided (during the plans, of course) that we would be bringing our Rhubarb (the very best kind, that only grows on the Farm), fresh herbs bundles of the chives, sage, oregano, and thyme varieties. And chocolate chip cookies.
There was some talk of making all sorts of baked goods, and that may come in time, but as this is our first real outing at Market, we do not want to outdo ourselves. Better to start small. So, what we shall have available is this:
- Our books (of course!) being: The Farmer and his Wife, Not Your Average Rooster, The Gift, The Newstead Project, The Bashan Agenda, The Revenge of the Rephiam, and Blackbird (those last four are my dark and edgy young adult series).
- Honey Bar Soaps: Made with local honey and beeswax, these soaps have what your skin’s hungry for!
- Vegetable Journals: The covers of our handcrafted journals are made with recycled paper pulp and vegetable scraps, right from our Farm.
- Red Jelly: A little sweet, a little heat, and a lot of love, our jellies are made with strained rhubarb juice and cayenne peppers-a delightful combination.
- Wool Dryer Balls, compliments of Daisy Mae–the sweetest little Ewe around. She enjoys grass, grazing, and chewing her cud–all of which result in having the fluffiest, softest wool imaginable.
- Fresh Picks for this week: Rhubarb and herbs
- Baked Goods: Chocolate Chip Cookies (there will be samples!) and whatever Hannah decides to make–I think she’s leaning towards brownies
That’s it for this first day. Knowing us, we’ll mix it up a bit as we go. I plan on making copper cookie cutters, hand pies, s’mores kits (in all sorts of different varieties, each with flavored homemade marshmallows and different cookie types. Think lemon shortbread cookie, red raspberry marshmallow, and white chocolate), needle work projects and the like. And, of course, the fruits and veggies will change as the season gets on. Hannah’s talking about selling some of her paintings, making hair scrunchies and whatever else her creative mind comes up with–whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be amazing!
So, if you’re in the area (Pendleton, NY) this Sunday from 8-2, stop out and say hi! I just might have a cookie for you!
